2020 Ford EcoSport
A subcompact SUV, the 2020 Ford EcoSport is the smallest of Ford's crossover SUV lineup. A relatively new vehicle, the EcoSport debuted in 2018, and the 2020 models remain part of this generation. Despite its small size, the vehicle seats five people in two rows and has ample room for these passengers as well as above-average cargo space.
Trim Levels
There are four trims available with the 2020 EcoSport: S, SE, SES, and Titanium. The vehicle comes standard with 16-inch wheels, but the other trims add 17-inch wheels. You can choose among 10 color options, which is the same number offered with the previous year's model. Otherwise, its exterior is the same five-door body with a horizontally hinged rear hatch.
Engine
The standard three-cylinder EcoBoost engine produces 123 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with front-wheel drive. The other engine option is a four-cylinder one that produces 166 horsepower and 149 pound-feet of torque, but it only comes with all-wheel drive. This engine comes standard with the SES and is optional with other trims. Both engines work with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
When it comes to fuel economy, the 2020 EcoSport has excellent numbers. The base engine gets 27 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Having an all-wheel-drive vehicle decreases the mileage slightly as you get an estimated 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
Front-wheel drive EcoSport vehicles can tow 1,400 pounds, but all-wheel-drive models with the four-cylinder engine can tow up to 2,000 pounds. These numbers are about standard for vehicles in its class.
Interior
With the entry-level S trim, you get cloth upholstery, a 4.2-inch display with the SYNC infotainment system, a six-speaker audio system, two USB ports, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot. The hot spot is new for the 2020 models. The SE trim provides additional pampering with a power-adjustable heated driver's seat, automatic climate control, and leather accents. Its SYNC 3 infotainment interface adds either a 6.5- or an 8-inch touch-screen display along with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
A luxurious trim, the Titanium has leather-trimmed seats, an HD radio, and a 10-speaker audio system. The sportier SES trim includes a seven-speaker audio system, navigation, and heated steering wheel.
The vehicle boasts plenty of cargo space, especially when compared to others in its class. Behind the rear seats, you have 20.9 cubic feet, while folding those seats gives you about 50 cubic feet of space.
Safety Features
The only standard features found on the EcoSport is a rearview camera and Ford's MyKey, which lets you set audio and speed limits for secondary drivers. Standard driver-assist technology new for the 2020 models includes FordPass Connect, which allows you to remotely lock and unlock the vehicle, check the mileage, and enable remote start.
Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Due to these safety features, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the EcoSport with a four out of five stars safety rating. It earned five stars for the side crash test and four for the frontal crash test.
