A midsize SUV that slots between the Ford Escape and Explorer, the 2020 Ford Edge features a roomy interior for five passengers and plenty of cargo. As part of the second Edge generation that was introduced in 2015, the 2020 model is a quality choice whether you're traveling cross-country or commuting as it achieves excellent gas mileage.
Trim Levels
The 2020 Ford Edge is available in four trims: SE, SEL, Titanium, and ST. The lower trims include 18-inch wheels, while the Titanium trim offers 19- or 20-inch wheels. The ST lets you have either 20- or 21-inch wheels. The vehicle has six new color options, and you can opt for black side rails on all trims.
Engine
The base engine found on the 2020 Edge is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 250 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque. It works with front-wheel drive and a standard eight-speed automatic transmission. If you want more power, the performance-oriented ST has a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 engine that produces 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque and comes standard with all-wheel drive.
Performance
When it comes to fuel economy, the 2020 Edge with front-wheel drive and the base engine achieves an EPA-estimated 21 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. These numbers are some of the best in its class. All-wheel drive decreases the ratings slightly, giving you 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Opting for the V-6 engine gives you 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
Interior
Cloth upholstery, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and dual-zone automatic climate control come standard with the 2020 Edge, but there are numerous upgrades available. The SEL trim adds synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a six-way power-adjustable passenger seat. With the Titanium and ST trims, you gain a heated steering wheel, genuine leather upholstery, and a 10-way power-adjustable passenger's seat.
When it comes to technology, the vehicle comes standard with an 8-inch SYNC 3 infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility. It also includes a Wi-Fi hot spot, two USB ports, and satellite radio. Optional upgrades include wireless device charging as well as a nine- or 12-speaker audio system.
For storage space, the vehicle has 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. If you fold down that second row, your space almost doubles to 73.4 cubic feet. As a result, this two-row SUV has one of the largest cargo capacities compared to others in its class.
Safety Features
Ford doesn't skimp on standard safety features for the 2020 Edge. Among the highlights include Ford's Co-Pilot360, which consists of forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Another popular standard feature is Ford's MyKey, which lets you set audio and speed limits for secondary drivers.
Thanks to these features, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the vehicle with an overall perfect five-star safety rating. It earned five stars for the frontal and side crash tests and four stars with the rollover test.
