2020 Ford Escape
Completely redesigned for 2020, the Ford Escape handles better than most vehicles in its class. This compact crossover SUV is larger than the previous year's model and offers plenty of space, including cargo space and in the rear seats.
Trim Levels
With the 2020 Escape, you have five trim options: S, SE, SE-Sport, SEL, and Titanium. The SE-Sport is only available with the hybrid engine. The redesigned vehicle is about 2 inches longer than the outgoing version. The vehicle's exterior has a somewhat soft shape with a low grille, making it look more like a car than an SUV. Its exterior looks more like a crossover SUV. The upper-level trims have an optional moonroof.
Engine
As part of the vehicle's redesign, the 2020 Escape comes standard with a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 180 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. This replaces the four-cylinder engine that produced 168 horsepower. The 2020 model also replaces two turbo-four engines that produced 179 and 245 horsepower with a more powerful 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that emits 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Both engines operate with an eight-speed automatic transmission. There's also a hybrid option. Front-wheel drive comes standard on all trims except the all-wheel-drive Titanium, but you can opt for all-wheel drive.
Performance
The base engine on the 2020 Escape gives you 27 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. With all-wheel drive and the same engine, the numbers drop 1 mpg. The turbo-four engine gets you an estimated 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The base turbo-three can tow up to 2,000 pounds, while the turbo-four can tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.
Interior
Standard interior features of the 2020 Escape include cloth upholstery, a USB port, a six-speaker audio system, and the SYNC infotainment system with a 4.2-inch display screen. The SE trim adds a power-adjustable driver's seat, automatic climate control, heated front seats, satellite radio, the SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touch-screen display, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
You gain synthetic leather upholstery and a heated steering wheel with the SEL trim. The top-of-the-line Platinum trim includes genuine leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable passenger seat, navigation, and a 10-speaker audio system.
With cargo space, the vehicle has 33.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and if you fold them down, you get 65.4 cubic feet. These numbers are some of the best in its class. The SEL trim adds a hands-free power liftgate, so you can easily place items in the vehicle without having to operate the handle.
Safety Features
The 2020 Escape comes standard with a plethora of safety features, including forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and a rearview camera. Many of these features are found on the Co-Pilot360 suite of products. The vehicle also boasts Ford's MyKey, which lets you set speed and audio limits for secondary drivers. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist, rear parking sensors, and parallel and perpendicular park assist.
