Completely redesigned for the 2020 model year, the Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV that offers plenty of power and standard safety features found within its trim options. But how do you know which trim works best for you? Keep reading to learn more about the four trims found on the 2020 Explorer.
XLT
The base XLT trim feels nothing like the lowest model option. Inside you get cloth upholstery, eight-way power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a well-equipped infotainment system called the SYNC 3. There’s an 8-inch touch-screen display to operate this system, which comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. To keep everyone connected, there are two front-row and two second-row USB ports as well as a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot.
To assist with operating the vehicle, you gain a remote start, a push-button start, and a power liftgate. Powering this trim is a four-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower. You also get an impressive set of advanced safety features through Ford’s Co-Pilot360, which includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Ford’s MyKey also comes standard, and this feature lets you set audio and speed limits for secondary drivers.
The base trim is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive comes standard, but you can opt for all-wheel drive. A 10-speed automatic transmission also comes standard.
Limited
With the Limited trim, you gain sophistication inside of the vehicle thanks to leather upholstery, a 10-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated second-row seats. For technology upgrades, this trim includes a power outlet, wireless device charging, and a 12-speaker sound system.
Extra safety features wit
h this trim are found with the Co-Pilot360 Assist+, which includes lane centering, steering assist, speed sign recognition, and voice-activated navigation. Outside of the package are a 360-degr
ee parking camera, rain-sensitive windshield wipers, and front parking sensors.
This trim has the same engine found in the base XLT trim. It also includes power-folding mirrors and a hands-free liftgate.
ST
As the sport-oriented trim, the ST replaces the previous Sport trim. Its black exterior styling and sport-tuned suspension make it stand out from the others. To power the ST, you get a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine that produces 400 horsepower. You only have four-wheel drive with this SUV.
Safety features found
with the ST include reverse brake assist as well as active park assist for parallel and perpendicular parking. There’s also a tow package available.
Platinum
The top-of-the-line
Platinum trim piggybacks off the Limited trim but adds leather seats and interior as well as a moonroof. It comes with the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine found in the Limited, but this one produces 365 horsepower. It also only comes with four-wheel drive.
